The Creative State of Mind

Posted in: Business, Creativity | (Français) le23 July 2011

To demarcate your business or performance from the rest of the world, you can’t afford not to be different. The moment you start thinking of how to be different, you enter into a creative state of mind.

Whether you are looking for a new idea or you are improving an existing idea, you need a creative state of mind. By creative state of mind, I mean a state of mind where you are always:

Thinking differently;

Looking at different angles;

Changing your perception;

Trying to combine different things;

Seeing links where others cannot;

Looking for analogies and;

Comparing different products and systems.

If we knew how to activate this creative state of mind, we could shift our thoughts into the creative mode whenever we needed to be creative. Unfortunately, our brain is far more complex than a computer system, and we cannot simply download a program for creative thinking and start analyzing things differently.

However, brain circuits are smarter than computer circuits. Brain circuits can develop, rewire and reprogram themselves. By performing certain tasks, by adopting certain attitudes and by thinking in a certain way, we can stimulate the brain circuits associated with creative thinking. Once these circuits are activated and information starts flowing through them, we fall into a creative state of mind.

    Makes a lot of sense. A lot of people have tons of ideas, but cannot do anything with them or put them in practice so as to make a difference.
